My years as a flight attendant taught me that parents who plan ahead have the easiest time traveling with their kids. Now a mother of five and still a frequent world traveler, I’ve learned from experience that avoiding the stress and frustration of traveling with kids starts with knowing what to bring on board.
Put simply, carryon bags are the holy grail of travel salvation; pack them full of snacks (remember, no more than 3oz of liquid per bottle) and entertainment (a deck of cards, book, portable DVD player, coloring supplies, or whatever game/activity your child is obsessed with this week).
Other musts: a change of clothes (hey, kids are messy), a pack of wipes (like I said, kids are messy), some basic first aid items (pain relievers, cough drops, Band Aids, and eye drops are a good start), and a small pillow and blanket (planes often leave without enough of these on board), and anything that will help your kids sleep through the flight is worth the space in that carryon bag.
