My 8 year old wrote a song today and as I listened, it warmed my heart to hear the words. He wrote of helping others and how he knows of struggles, he wrote of having a a good heart and of knowing his purpose. Pretty deep and sensitive for an 8 year old. In our home, we constantly reinforce the positive and the good. We teach our children that no one is inherently bad, they just make poor decisions. Even when they miss a shot at a sporting event, we encourage our kids to say to themselves, “you can do better” instead of “I am horrible.”
To make the message I’m teaching my children even stronger, I have embroidered simple yet powerful statements like, “I am Kind,” “I am Humble,” and “I am Loving” on our towels. My husband and I feel that the more our children see and feel these words, the more they will believe all the good they have inside.
